Andrija, I'm flattered you accepted to be interviewed for
my online mag, to start this interview off, please give
me some background information.
was born in Serbia, in the city of Belgrade. I have
grown up in Zemun, one of the Belgrade borough. I have
a twin brother, Ivan, and an older sister Nevena with
whom I lived in the same apartment until I started to travel for modeling at the age of 21 years.
I studied at School of Business in Belgrade.
did you start your career as a model? Who convinced
you to become a model?
At that time,
Serbia was non-democratic country under the influence of
one dictator, a country that was surrounded by
war and economic crisis and I haven't seen myself
there anymore. I was looking to leave the country
in every possible way, and modeling was the first
thing that I tried, and luckily, it worked. At that
time I didn't have big ambition in it was just a
chance to travel a world a bit and to grab some other
opportunity, but during the time I have realised my
potential to do it professionally. Coincidently,
my first neighbor was the owner of the biggest modeling
agency in the country. Through his agency I had my first
modeling experience doing fashion shows, magazine
and catalog shoots, but I gained my biggest experience
in Asian countries, and then I tried the "big
scene" in Europe.
-Do you remember
your first photo shoot? Who was the photographer
and did you feel comfortable in front of his camera?
I do. I was 19 years old, I showed up where they had
told me to go and I tried to do what I was
told, completely ignorant about fashion business.
I had a hard time to find out which way things work
and I paid on my skin all mistakes. Later
I gave all the good tips and information to other
new upcoming models, and I thought it would have
if someone had given me good advice.
-Which fashion designer was your first fashion
show for? What were you thinking during it?
modeling career started several years before I came to Milan to try out the big scene. I
have done fashion weeks in Belgrade, Athens, Bangkok,
Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapour etc, and over there have
done hundreds of fashion shows for so many designers
and today its interesting to go through my book,
with list of names, dates of all fashion
shows that I have done in my long career. My major
success in fashion was with Dolce &
Armani, Bottega Veneta, John Galliano, Salvatore
Ferragamo, Givency, Paul Smith and many other fashion
shows in Milan and Paris.
-I know it's a very special moment for your career,
can you share with me some of your recent and
days I am in my early 30s, and I am more interested
in working online and catalogs for big departments
stores in United States, that bring constant
work and less traveling around. In Europe I have done
some fashion campaigns for Strellson, Bugatti and few
other clients from England and Germany.
-In terms of preferences, do you like to
do photo-shoots for editorials and campaigns or do you
enjoy doing the fashion shows more?
as the years was passing on and as I was staying more
in the business. At the beginning I liked doing fashion
shows more, but today I find it awkward as
I think that is more what younger guys should
do. As you stay more in business, you start to
look it more trough the money, and fashion shows
are mostly for promotion. I like doing fashion shoots
now, they can take less time and they are better
paid. The only true thing that I enjoy right now is
doing photo shoots on tropical destinations.
-Apart from modeling, what else do you enjoy doing?
am big fan of motorcycles, and I enjoy riding around
New York, or doing a small trips around. Basketball
and soccer are two sports that are always present
in my life, and I enjoy playing it with friends twice
a week. Beside modeling I work as a videographer, and
developing my new career in that direction.
-I guess you've traveled around the world, where you
would like to live other than where you do now?
home town, Belgrade, is always present in my heart.
Somehow, my heart will make me return one day at the
place where I have started, where most of my friends
and family are. I am planning to establish family
in New York, and to spend there 3-5 years more,
and then I will see where the life will take me. I would
like to live on warmer place that's for sure.
-Do you have a personal motto, that sums
up your thoughts about life in a sentence?
and Being Alive are not same things. I need things
to be intense, because they would be boring to
death if they weren't so.
-What has been
"the best day of your life" so far? What happened
have found out that I will be father. From modeling
part was booking my first campaign that I knew
that it would send me where I wanted to be.
-Thanks Anndrija for taking your time to answer my questions,
it was a gift to
me and my readers!
