Mag! April, 2010
- Hello
Ryan, I'm really flattered you accepted to be interviewed
for CoverMen Mag!, to start this interview off, please
give me some brief background information.
No
problem its my pleasure. I'm from Lockport NY which
is one of the suburbs of Buffalo. I have 3 sisters (one
older and two younger) I'm the only boy. After graduating
high school I attended college for 2 years before deciding
to make the move to New York and pursue modeling.
I currently live in NY and I've been living
here for 3 years now. I was never a city boy but after
3 years its started to grow on me. When I leave town
for work I find myself missing it which I never thought
I would haha.
-Who discovered you and
convinced you to become a model and how old were you
at the time?
The thought of modeling never
crossed my mind when I was younger. In high school
a teacher at my school asked me if I ever thought of
becoming a model. I was 15 or 16 at the time. At that
time I knew absolutely nothing about the business. I
didn’t even know guys did that haha. Anyways a year
or 2 later my sister heard on the radio that a scouting
event (proscout) was coming to Buffalo and she told
me to go to it and see what happens. I went with my
mom and I ended up meeting my manager (JJ Cortez) there.
He brought me to NYC a few weeks later and I signed
with IMG models. I was 17, I didn’t start right away
I decided to do a couple years of college first.

-How
did you get your first modeling job and what was it
like?
My first modeling job believe it or
not was a editorial for Playboy lol. I had all my clothes
on. It was 1 page and I was in the background, not the
best shoot but you have to start somewhere haha.
-What
was the funniest work that you have done as a model
so far?
A couple years ago I did a job for
Steven Kleins birthday party where a few of us guys
had to stand on stage at this club called "The
box" in a suit jacket and shirt but no pants, just
our underwear. It was pretty embarassing lol
-Tell
me, you worked with so many major designers, but is
there still a fashion campaign and a designer you would
like to work for?
There's no particular one..I
would love to work with all of them.
-Which
campaign marked the beginning of "a new level"
in your career and made you one of the most successful
male models, ranked among the top10 male models by models.com?
Louis
Vuitton was the one that put me on the map. I had a
few others before that but this one took me to the next
level. I'm really grateful for it.
-Some
tips for new/aspiring model, what do you think is the
key to be chosen by photographers and clients in such
a competitive market?
There's
a lot of luck involved. Just be yourself, don't get
discouraged. There is a lot of rejection in this industry
and you cant let it get to you.
-How do
you feel about being popular? Good, Bad, Indifferent...?
I
don't really feel popular, the only people that know
who I am are people in the industry I think.
-Tell
me something about yourself, how would you describe
who Ryan is? Which adjectives would you use for this
purpose?
I would say that I'm pretty easy
going and laid back. I used to be shy but this business
helped me come out of my shell.
-How do
you spend your spare time? What is the meaning of fun
and having a good time for you?
On my spare
time I'm usually with my girlfriend, dinner and a movie
is our favorite.. I like going to sporting events. My
closest friends live back in Lockport so I love going
home to visit everyone.
-Thanks
Ryan for taking your time to reply to my questions,
it was really a gift to me and my readers!
