Mag! April, 2009
-Hello Pierre-Olivier I'm flattered you accepted to be interviewed
for CoverMen Mag!, to start this interview off, please
give me some background information.
I'm
from a little town close to Montreal, called
Repentigny. Before starting modelling, I used
to be a gymnast. Gymnastic was taking a very big
part of my life because I was training about 30 hours/week.
At 15, I broke my back and had to stop
so after that, I concentrated on school and on studying acting
and singing. I've always been an artistic person. I'm
a real performer! I still do a lot of sport but
most of the time, because I'm travelling a lot, I just
go to the gym and practice yoga. I also do some singing
gigs for different projects when I'm in Canada.
-How did you get into modeling?
I never decided
to become a model. Younger, I used to play
in some TV shows and TV commercials in Canada. One
day, the studio next door to the one I was shooting
a TV commercial in was shooting a big campaign for
a famous designer and the stylist came to me and asked
me if I already thought about becoming a model.
He sent me to a big agency and one week later
I was the youngest male model in Montreal and was shooting
my first campaign for a designer in Milan. I was 16,
male models habitually start modelling older
but I guess they saw something in me and knew I had
a good potential for the future. My family has always
been supportive even if they had never been in this
business before.
-Tell me about your working relationships with photographers,
what
characteristics do you admire most in a photographer?

I
like when the photographer knows what he wants. I never
like shooting just for shooting… I like when there's
a story or a concept behind the project. It brings so
much emotions and something more than just an empty
fashionable editorial. The connection with me and the
photographer is also very important for me when
I'm shooting. You can see a real difference on
the final result when you get this special connection
with him.
-What is the best thing
about modeling?
Travelling
is definitely the best thing about modelling. I was only
19 and I already went to New York, Milan, Paris, Tokyo,
Los Angeles. I just came back from Tokyo where I spent
2 months. The economic crisis doesn't help us at all
right now but I've been very lucky to be buzy there.
-Tell me
about your recent fashion shows...
In the
last few months, I didn't do a lot of shows because
being buzy like crazy doing all the castings for
the fashion weeks with also too many guys in town is
not really for me. I did great shows in the past like
Gucci, Zegna, Prada but runway is not my priority. I
don't have very big feet so habitually, the shoes are
always too big for me so I always have to find a way not
to lose one when I'm walking!!! Thank God I don't
have to walk with 4 inches hills like the girls!

-What are some of your professional goals as a model?
Which fashion campaigns and which designers would you like to work for?
My modelling career
is getting better and better for the last 2 years. Because
I'm also buzy working on my music and my singing career
in Canada, it's hard to be at the right place to get
the big jobs. I really like Dsquared, D&G,
Ralph Lauren campaigns. I had the chance to work
with Bruce Weber in the past for Abercrombie and hopefully,
I will have the chance to work with him again because
I really think he's one of the top fashion photographer.
I really like Steven Klein's work too. If I'm given a chance to spend more time in New York, I really hope
things will turn great and successful.
-Share with me some me of your current and upcoming projects
and tell me, apart from modeling, what else would you like to pursue?
I'm
now working on my new business that I'm starting with
my best friend. We'll produce and perform in different
shows with singers, dancers and acrobats for several
companies for their annual parties or different big
events. We will try to sale the show for
different casinos or big theaters later. In this moment
I'm on the
plane coming back from St-Martin island for vacation.
I have to work on my new website and on my new show too.
I'm in Los Angeles next week for a couple
of days and I might stay around Montreal, Toronto and
New York for the summer. After time, I don't have
any specific plans but I will try to stay as buzy as
I can .

Well,
singing is my life. I can’t live without singing. I'm
singing everywhere, in my car, in the shower, alone
at home, in my dreams. It just feel so good. I don't
know why. It's like that. Acting is also very important.
I played in some TV shows and TV commercials when
I was younger and I also studied acting at college.
Because I decided to focus more on modelling after school,
I didn't have the chance to prove myself and do the
audition for television to get a part in a movie or a
TV show. Unfortunately, I can't do everything at the
same time but I really hope I will have the chance to
be part of a movie or acting project one day. As
I always said, show business is 2 words. You can have
the best talent in the world but you also need a business
and people behind you, to make you at the top!
-How do you feel about being popular? Good, Bad, Indifferent...?
I
think it's very important to share some of your life
when people have interest about your career. It's
always fun when people stop me on the street or email
me telling me that they like my work. And with
Facebook now, It's crazy how many friend requests I
can receive in 1 day. I never realize when I see that
some people really follow my career. I try to stay
a little quiet about my personal life even if I don't
have anything to hide…well, almost nothing! My website will be online very soon www.pierreolivierbeaudoin.com
and I will have a blog to let everybody know where I
am in the world and what I am working on.
-Tell me a little bit about your personality, how would you describe yourself,
what are some of your personal interests and what kind of clothes do you like to wear best? I'm
very independent but when I'm with someone, I'm very romantic,
and pationate. I really like to laugh and I heard
that my
laugh is contagious so I guess that’s my thing! I
don't really go out a lot to clubs and flirt!
It's just not for me. So if you want to impress me,
you have to make me laugh!! I did gymnastic for 8 years so sport is very important
in my life. Anywhere
I'm going in the world, I will go to the gym or yoga
everyday, not just
to work on my body but also on my soul. It makes me
feel so good. I can't
enjoy anything more than a nice dinner with
my best friends and after, go see a play, opera or just
go to the movie theater.
I also like to have a rasberry mojitos at the W hotels!
That’s my favorite!
OMG, or go to karaoke with my singer friends and sing
all night long drinking
some beer!
I
really like fashion but I like simple style. I
laugh when I see some peoples with crazy style with
so many accessories on : necklace, bracelet, hat, scarf,
sunglasses, earing…etc. When I'm home, I'm very
sweatpant/Vneck t-shirt style. Natural beauty is so
much more sexy than trying to be too much fashionable…
But I'm always ready to wear my new suit or new
shoes for a big event! haha
-Thanks again Pierre-Olivier for taking your time to
talk to me, my last question: what is the most embarassing thing you
ever did?
I
should
say go out in underwear in a big club in Vegas with
3 of my friends. It was
drink for free all night long for guys or girls that
were coming only in underwear.
We had such a blast! It was one of my best nights! But
no comments about
how the night ended up!!!!
