Mag! March, 2010
-Hello
Niklas, I'm flattered you accepted to be interviewed
for CoverMen Mag!, to start this interview off, please
give me some background information.
I was
born in Sweden on the countryside in a little city in
Sweden called Örebro. It is kind of a university
city with a lot of students and a big castle in the
middle of the centre, really beautiful. My mum and dad
are both teachers in high school and are located in
the middle of Sweden. I just decided to move back to
Sweden and go back to University and continue my Psychology
studies 4 more years to become a psychologist. And it
feels great to be back in reality even if living in
Milan, New York, Paris etc is great.
-How
did you start your career as a model? Who convinced
you to become a model?
It all started when
I was 17 years old and on my way to my older sisters
model agency in Stockholm. They saw me and tried to
convince me to start trying do modeling. I said no, immediately
after, but after a couple of weeks my sister convinced
me at least to try it once. So I did. I went to Paris
and pass trough a huge culture crash. After 3 weeks
I was super-bored and on my way back to Sweden, convinced
to never do this job again. Two days before leaving
Paris I booked my first campaign for Wella (hair products)
and for the first time I understand the good things
about the business.
-Do you remember your
first modeling job? Who was the photographer and did
you feel comfortable in front of his/her camera?
My
first job was actually not a shoot it was a fashion
show in Stockholm. I remember that my walk style on
the catwalk was like nothing I never seen. I was playing
ice hockey all my youth, with means that I walked like
a duck down the catwalk. My first big shoot was for
OumoVouge with an Asian photographer called Satoshi
Saikusa.
-What did you buy with the money
earned from your first modeling job?
I went
on a summer trip for a couple of weeks down to the countries
around the Mediterranean.
-Who was your
first major runway show for? What was the feeling before
and after the show?
My first big runway
show was for Jean Paul Gaultier in Paris. At that point
I didn't know anything about the business, I was a really
rookie. I remember that I had an odd feeling all the
time and I also remember that I didn’t had a clue what
Mr.Gaultier looked like. After the show I realized that
I shaked his head twice without having a doubt that
it was him.
-What kind of assignments,
as a model, do you prefer?
It all depends on
what team you are working with. If it’s a commercial
or a fashion shoot doesn’t really matter as long as
you having a great time with the others at the set.
But If I have to pick I would choose commercial, its
always fun to do some acting.
-What was
the most fun work that you have done as a model?
That’s
a hard question to answer. But I think I would say my
trip for Replay to the Amazon jungle outside the Brazilian
city Manaus. It was an amazing experience really one
of those trips that you never would have been doing
by yourself. The Replay crew is by the way always great
so that might be a reason why I had such a great time.
-Turning
to some personal questions, how would you describe yourself
in few words and what do you consider to be your main
strengths?
Describe myself, ohh that’s always
a tough one! I am a nice guy, who loves to do all kind
of sports from racket sports, ice hockey to martial
arts. I like to read, especially books about history
and psychology. A lot of my spare time goes to my university
studies where I am in the middle of studies to become
a psychologist.
-What are some of your
personal interests? What do you like to do in your spare
time if you have any?
Like I said on the
question before I love sports and my studies. It’s absolutely
wonderful to combine model work with studies. I really
recommend as many as possibly trying doing both if they
have the opportunity. Except studies and sport I try
to be in Sweden as much as I can to see my family, girlfriend
and friends.
-Thanks Niklas for taking
your time to reply to my questions, it was a gift to
me and my readers!
